Active Charge Equalizer of Li-Ion Battery Cells Using Double Energy Carriers

    Get PDF
In this work, a new active balancing circuit is proposed. This circuit consists of a cell-access network and an energy-transfer network. The cell-access network requires 2n + 6 switches, where n is the number of cells, and creates an energy-transfer path between unbalanced cells and the energy-transfer network. The energy-transfer network has double energy carriers and simultaneously implements cell-to-pack and pack-to-cell balancing operations without overlapping. As a result, a high power rate and fast balancing operation can be achieved by using two energy carriers in a single balancing circuit. The prototype of a proposed balancing circuit was built for six cells and then tested under various conditions; all cells in the state of charge (SOC) region of 70% to 80% were equalized after 93 min, and one charging/discharging period in the SOC region of 10% to 90% was increased by 8.58% compared to the non-balancing operation. These results show that the proposed circuit is a good way to balance charges among batteries in a battery pack.11Ysciescopu

Influence of glass hollow microsphere fillers on the Rheological behavior of Epoxy resin

    Get PDF
The rheological behavior of epoxy resin filled with glass hollow microspheres was studied using three types of microspheres with different particle size distributions. The shear-rate dependence on viscosity, as well as relative apparent viscosity, of the suspensions were investigated at different microsphere filler loadings. The change in relative viscosity with different types of microsphere loads was investigated using the established semi empirical model to estimate the critical filler load. It was found that the critical filler load for all kangspecific surface area of the filler. Please click Additional Files below to see the full abstract

Improved determination of color-singlet nonrelativistic QCD matrix elements for S-wave charmonium

We present a new computation of S-wave color-singlet nonrelativistic QCD matrix elements for the J/psi and the eta_c. We compute the matrix elements of leading order in the heavy-quark velocity v and the matrix elements of relative order v^2. Our computation is based on the electromagnetic decay rates of the J/psi and the eta_c and on a potential model that employs the Cornell potential. We include relativistic corrections to the electromagnetic decay rates, resumming a class of corrections to all orders in v, and find that they significantly increase the values of the matrix elements of leading order in v. This increase could have important implications for theoretical predictions for a number of quarkonium decay and production processes. The values that we find for the matrix elements of relative order v^2 are somewhat smaller than the values that one obtains from estimates that are based on the velocity-scaling rules of nonrelativistic QCD.Comment: 31 pages, minor corrections, version published in Phys. The immediate upstream region of the 5 '-UTR from the AUG start codon has a pronounced effect on the translational efficiency in Arabidopsis thaliana

The nucleotide sequence around the translational initiation site is an important cis-acting element for post-transcriptional regulation. However, it has not been fully understood how the sequence context at the 5'-untranslated region (5'-UTR) affects the translational efficiency of individual mRNAs. In this study, we provide evidence that the 5'-UTRs of Arabidopsis genes showing a great difference in the nucleotide sequence vary greatly in translational efficiency with more than a 200-fold difference. Of the four types of nucleotides, the A residue was the most favourable nucleotide from positions -1 to -21 of the 5'-UTRs in Arabidopsis genes. In particular, the A residue in the 5'-UTR from positions -1 to -5 was required for a high-level translational efficiency. In contrast, the T residue in the 5'-UTR from positions -1 to -5 was the least favourable nucleotide in translational efficiency. Furthermore, the effect of the sequence context in the -1 to -21 region of the 5'-UTR was conserved in different plant species. Based on these observations, we propose that the sequence context immediately upstream of the AUG initiation codon plays a crucial role in determining the translational efficiency of plant genes.ope

Wireless Battery Charging Circuit Using Load Estimation without Wireless Communication

    Get PDF
A wireless battery charging circuit is proposed, along with a new load estimation method. The proposed estimation method can predict the load resistance, mutual inductance, output voltage, and output current without any wireless communication between the transmitter and receiver sides. Unlike other estimation methods that sense the high-frequency AC voltage and current of the transmitter coil, the proposed method only requires the DC output value of the peak current detection circuit at the transmitter coil. The proposed wireless power transfer (WPT) circuit uses the estimated parameters, and accurately controls the output current and voltage by adjusting the switching phase difference of the transmitter side. The WPT prototype circuit using a new load estimation method was tested under various coil alignment and load conditions. Finally, the circuit was operated in a constant current and constant voltage modes to charge a 48-V battery pack. These results show that the proposed WPT circuit that uses the new load estimation method is well suited for charging a battery pack.11Ysciescopu
